Pure Random

I can’t quite figure out what I wanted to blog about today, so I will talk about different subjects, and give you a peek at what is going on in my mind…

Warning, it is quite diverse and a few different subjects at one time.

Food:

(Not my picture. XD)

I did it! I actually tried baking with the fresh strawberries, and let me say, it was delicious! Let’s just say the cake didn’t last long enough to take a picture. My family (aka: Me, my husband and my daughter) LOVED it and it was eaten pretty quickly.

My daughter’s 2nd birthday is coming up, so I may try something like this again for her cake (I am baking it for her this year to try to save money for the zoo!) so this is definitely an idea that will be shelved and saved for future reference.

Design:

Have you seen this picture going around?

You know what I’m going to point out, right? ….

I hope you answered THE RUG! *laughs* LOOK!

It’s an older style more traditional rug but it fits in this room VERY well! I would have never thought of placing this rug in this room, but look how beautiful it looks? Isn’t it fantastic? So I tried to see if I can find a rug similar to this on eSaleRugs.com

I think I found some close ones… what do you think?

esalerugs.com/22096199

esalerugs.com/22098990

Then I found a colorful version. ;P

esalerugs.com/22129645

Now, the colorful one isn’t exactly the same, but I thought it was interesting!

Kids/Family:

And I am really excited! My baby is turning 2!! It’s amazing how fast time goes by! And we know what we’re doing for her birthday. She isn’t going to get many presents, but she is going to visit…..

*trumpets*

THE ZOO!

We have been wanting to take her to the zoo since the first time she watched We Bought A Zoo! She loved that movie and it was her favorite for the longest time. And now, she gets to see a zoo! We figured that she is old enough now to actually enjoy it and have fun, so it’s the great “First Trip” (besides the cross country drive… but all she saw then was the backseat while wrapped in a blanket. *laughs*)

This is where we are going!

Riverbanks zoo and garden in Columbia, SC! I am truly excited. I will probably be taking a lot of pictures. My facebook friends are going to get a lot of new photos in a new album pop up on their feed soon after this. *wink*

I have been trying to plan this, but I think, in the end, winging it will just be the best thing. See what she wants to do and where she wants to go. Should be a blast.

And….

That is a look at what goes on in my brain at one time. It is quite… amusing how it jumps so quickly to all of it and bounces back between them.

What is going on in your mind today?

Summer Reading! – For the kids?

So, it’s that time of year. I know everyone focuses on which activities we need to get our kids to do to keep them active and not on video games the entire time.

But I feel like this needs some attention as well! It helps the brain do some wondering and exercising as well, and that is just as important.

Now, here is the hard part…
Which books to have the kids read?

I remember back in the day when I was little-er I used to love these books:

But what’s out there today?

I started asking some other moms, and here are some books that they told me about:

Now I got excited because I recognized the Author!

Apparently this has been out for a while as well, I just haven’t seen it. *laughs*

I know they made a movie of this lately, and what’s interesting is that boys can enjoy this too!

A newer series I had to look up. I thought maybe it was older, but definitely a newer one. I had heard of it before because they made a movie from this as well!

Now, I have never heard of this one, but I will need to look into it for my daughter.

Another book a Boy can enjoy!

These are starters for younger kids, but it’s fantastic! I think it’s a good list to begin with, and if you are an “out of touch mom” like me, you’ll be glad for this list!

Designer’s Day Off

Usually this is where I do “Designer of the Week!” But today, for THIS week, I decided to focus on other things and see where it takes me..

Then do “Designers” NEXT week. ;P No, it has not been abandoned, just…

I need a breather. I have been doing decor and all this fun stuff that I have forgotten about other things.

And the other things are things we moms need to think about!

So This week will be my “SUMMER SERIES OF IDEAS FOR MOMS”

Now, here’s the debate, start a FULL out entry today, or just wait for tomorrow, and just give instructions about how to make your own play-doh! (Thank you to the wonderful instructables.com site for this fantastic “recipe”.)

Yup, just the play-doh instructions!

Basic ingredient ratios:
2 cups flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon cream of tartar (optional for improved elasticity)

(And the love the comments below on the original entry is AWESOME!)

♪ I Want You Back ♪

Now, there may be many who have no IDEA where my title comes from.

It comes from my childhood. Specifically, my favorite band back when I was a kid: *Nsync!

♪ You’re all I ever wanted
You’re all I ever needed, yeah
So tell me what to do now
‘Cause I want you back ♪

Ah, what nice lyrics! Seriously, have your READ the lyrics? (Hint, go here.)

I am REALLY half tempted to post the video up here, but I don’t want to scare some of you readers away!

But having this random urge to listen to this, it made met think about a lot of things from the Good Ol’ Days that I miss. And so, this is a tribute to being a kid.

1. Rice Krispie Treats!~

Yes, we still have them, but it just feels like some kids of today just don’t know nor understand the enjoyment of making these goodies! And it’s something I haven’t done in a while. I’ll need to whip these up pretty soon.

(Thank you Rice Krispie Site! for providing the original recipe!)

Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
  • – OR –
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal

Directions:

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

2. Add KELLOGG’S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated.

3. Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:
In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Follow steps 2 and 3 above. Microwave cooking times may vary.

2. Music!

Music these days are just not the same! You can even compare the Lyrics between Justin Timberlake back in the day, and more recent!

Then:
“It’s hard to say I’m sorry
It’s hard to make the things I did undone
A lesson I’ve learned too well, for sure
So don’t hang up the phone now
I’m trying to figure out just what to do
I’m going crazy without you”

Recent:
“I’m bringing sexy back
Them other [bleep!] don’t know how to act
Come let me make up for the things you lack
‘Cause you’re burning up I gotta get it fast ”

Clearly, it has changed in the meaning. *tears*

I remembering listening to *Nsync, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, S Club 7, and many many others. The “bubblegum” music has changed! It’s gotten dirtier! Gah!

(What were some of your favorite artists from the day?)

3. Disney movies.

I’m spoiled rotten. I lived when a lot of the Disney Classics came out. Oh yeah. I love this style of movie, and it is missed. They have done some good ones lately (Cars 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) but well… don’t you miss the old ones? They’re still on the TOP of the “most liked” kids movies. Oh yeah.

There are many other things (easy homework, no responsibilities, etc) but it also scares me seeing the kids of today. They do things that I would have never dreamed of doing, saying things they shouldn’t be saying, and dressing in crazy ways. What happened? I am hoping to raise my daughter with some of the things I grew up with…

but it’s terrifying. O.O

Then again, maybe I’m just in a older mindset. (Ah, kids of 1989, do you understand what I am talking about? No? Huh…)

What about your childhood do you miss?

And now, we shall end with my favorite Disney “Princess”:
