Creative Week!

Gasp! Where is the Deisgner of the Week?!? you may ask.

Well, I am currently doing some research and having to take another break. (Designers are busy people, so I don’t push for answers, I just ask questions. ;D)

So I thought about it, and decided, this is a good week to talk about being creative and letting it shine in your own way! And I came up with it because I am starting this new task that I decided I wanted to be done. Changes are being made people, and sometimes, we just need inspiration and to see that others go through the same creative struggles as we do.

Now I know when he have this new project/new idea/etc we  get all excited and just want to start right away. And a lot of times, that’s actually the right thing to do. (If you don’t start, you might never.) But there are somethings you need to stop and think about before hand.

Now, this can fit to many different things. (Weight loss can fit into this very easily. No Joke.) You need to realistically think about how you are going to approach it and how to make sure you can keep it going.

Now, while you think about that for a second, here is a peaceful picture that actually helps me at times (oddly enough).

Now, you may wonder why I did that. It’s because it caused you to think did it not? It may have not been about what I had talked about thinking about, but it did start a thinking process (or so I hope.)

And proves a point:

When thinking about a project, try not to have distractions and just fully think about it. When you want something to be done, you need to focus. (there is a difference between setting time aside to focus to only thinking about one thing. You need breaks too!)

These days, we can get distracted WAY too easily. Just go online to do something may turn out like this:

“Oh, I want to get that blog entry written! But I can’t think about what to write about. Well… since I need to think let me check my email. I am supposed to be getting a message from work.”
“Oh look! I have some friends with birthdays this week! In fact, she has one today! Let’s go wish her happy birthday on her facebook wall.”
“Oh wow, that’s a cute picture. Where did they get it from?
*leads to another site*
“Oh that is just too perfect! I must pin this!” (Pinterest anyone?)
“That is such a beautiful dress… what site is that from?”

And on and on. Eventually you forget what you originally wanted to do. OR it makes it even HARDER to write something because you have so much on your mind now.

And boy do I know how that goes.

Projects take time, and though we are excited about them, think about how you will realistically ACHIEVE THEM. Make a plan and figure a time that you can set aside to work on it. It will get done. Sometimes it’s slow, but the feeling of accomplishment is grand.

Now go work on those projects!

Pure Random

I can’t quite figure out what I wanted to blog about today, so I will talk about different subjects, and give you a peek at what is going on in my mind…

Warning, it is quite diverse and a few different subjects at one time.

(Not my picture. XD)

I did it! I actually tried baking with the fresh strawberries, and let me say, it was delicious! Let’s just say the cake didn’t last long enough to take a picture. My family (aka: Me, my husband and my daughter) LOVED it and it was eaten pretty quickly.

My daughter’s 2nd birthday is coming up, so I may try something like this again for her cake (I am baking it for her this year to try to save money for the zoo!) so this is definitely an idea that will be shelved and saved for future reference.

Have you seen this picture going around?

You know what I’m going to point out, right? ….

I hope you answered THE RUG! *laughs* LOOK!

It’s an older style more traditional rug but it fits in this room VERY well! I would have never thought of placing this rug in this room, but look how beautiful it looks? Isn’t it fantastic? So I tried to see if I can find a rug similar to this on

I think I found some close ones… what do you think?

Then I found a colorful version. ;P

Now, the colorful one isn’t exactly the same, but I thought it was interesting!

And I am really excited! My baby is turning 2!! It’s amazing how fast time goes by! And we know what we’re doing for her birthday. She isn’t going to get many presents, but she is going to visit…..

We have been wanting to take her to the zoo since the first time she watched We Bought A Zoo! She loved that movie and it was her favorite for the longest time. And now, she gets to see a zoo! We figured that she is old enough now to actually enjoy it and have fun, so it’s the great “First Trip” (besides the cross country drive… but all she saw then was the backseat while wrapped in a blanket. *laughs*)

This is where we are going!

Riverbanks zoo and garden in Columbia, SC! I am truly excited. I will probably be taking a lot of pictures. My facebook friends are going to get a lot of new photos in a new album pop up on their feed soon after this. *wink*

I have been trying to plan this, but I think, in the end, winging it will just be the best thing. See what she wants to do and where she wants to go. Should be a blast.

That is a look at what goes on in my brain at one time. It is quite… amusing how it jumps so quickly to all of it and bounces back between them.

What is going on in your mind today?

My Modern Inspired Rug

I am hand clapping at how excited I was about the whole Minimal Modernism I experienced with this week’s designer.  It made me take a look at some things again and see it in a new way. Things I usually would never consider can fit well and add that hint of modern that actually works very well.

For example, the following rug from eSaleRugs: Gabbeh 33006752 (Click on the name and you’ll be directed to the exact page!)

At first, the middle design threw me off, but now that I have seen possibilities, I like it. A LOT. It has that touch of modern without being so “AH HA” in my face about it. It’s something that easily compliments, but also could work for a guy as well. (That’s very important I think. *laughs*)

What a great rug, right? Or how about Modern Tibet 33006751?

Both VERY nice. I may just get into this whole minimum modern thing. *wink*

Here’s both the links, in case you want the links to the rugs (WORTH LOOKING!)

How did he inspire you?

While flipping through Maite’s site, I noticed that everytime you go to her home page, there is a different picture. So I just clicked on it a few times when this photo popped up:

And it clicked! There’s a rug on eSaleRugs that is perfect for this! (

Why did I pick this one? Well, the furniture reminds me of an Antiqued look, which I find quite beautiful. And when I think Antiqued looks, I remember the Ziegler rugs! And what better than a Ziegler that has a lovely tone of blue that works and compliments the drawer and frame!

Designer Of The Week!

And now, I present to you, Maite Alegre from the UK!

A look that is coming up in the stylish world of Decor, Maite Alegre is one to definitely contact for her hand painted and restored furniture. It gives a “classic French rustic look or elegant Swedish country style,” as said in the Living Period magaine.

How fantastic is that?

Her Start:

She started in 2006, when she created her buisness from a lifelong passion. She handpaints each piece, creating a “vintage, shabby chic effect” and made with thought and love. She can work with just about any type of furniture and special trinkets (As you can see in some of the pictures.)

And the rest, well… I think she describes and talks about it best:

“I take one-off commissions, sourcing items to customise by request as well as restoring and giving new life to pieces brought to me by customers from across the UK. I’ve brought a touch of my striking white charm to the homes of high profile clients including the Duchess of Marlborough for her London and New York residences, as well as Julian Metcalfe the founder of Pret a Manger.

I am proud that this is an ethical business which encourages recycling, upcycling and the reuse of furniture that may not otherwise find a loving home.

I work closely with all of my customers to bring together an idea on budget and to your time-scale.

My Spanish origins influence my work, as do my very British surroundings and a passion for interior design. Like the beautiful wine region of Rioja where I was born, my pieces bring serenity and calm to a room and transform something that may be tired and dated into something truly beautiful – a real talking point.

You may not have heard of me yet, but if you love beautiful things and you are looking to add a unique touch to your home, or just want to spend an afternoon in the prettiest Oxfordshire surroundings, then do come and visit – our door is always open, the kettle boiling and the cake stand laden with delicious treats. ”

EXTRA: Not only can you visit her site, they hold cream tea events where you visit her, enjoy scones and tea and look around her showroom at your own speed! How fantastic is that? (My favorite phrasing: enjoy scones and tea from dainty French china cups and wander around the showroom at your leisure. Isn’t that such a lovely picture painted?)

I think it’s all quite lovely and so ahead of the trend~! They’re becoming BIG as we saw at High Point Show. (It’s a show where major decor places release upcoming trends for 2012 and coming seasons!) They were telling me this style was just everywhere and just working the room! So take advantage and visit Maite Alegre at her site!:

Mars Needs Moms

Now, I believe this movie went under the radar and needs more attention! I hadn’t heard much about this movie, but I do remember some mention of it when it was in theaters/going to be in theaters/commercial trails for it, but not taking it in.

It wasn’t until last night when my husband was trying to think of movies to watch that he was surfing the internet for anything we hadn’t seen before (and for him, it’s a hard thing to find. It feels like he’s seen EVERYTHING). He stumbled across this picture and said “Oh yeah, I wanted to give this movie a try.”

First, I have to point out, my husband is SO WONDERFUL! How many men do you know who will admit to wanting to watch this and then CHOSE it? Secondly, I had to ask, “What movie are you talking about?” As I headed over to him to see what he was looking at. Again, I remembered seeing some trailers for it, but didn’t pay attention.

“Eh, couldn’t hurt. I mean, haven’t heard anything bad about it.” (Didn’t hear anything about it period.)

And so, we went and got the movie.

Let’s just say: I cried.

I couldn’t help it. Being a mom myself, it’s just hard to see and think how your child might feel if you were kidnapped. Now note, you’re probably not going to get kidnapped by aliens, but still, roll with me here.

There were some odd things here and there, but overall, I think it was enjoyable. Now, I’m not sure how well young kids who understand will take it, but you moms out-there, I say definitely watch it. Maybe you’ll kids like it too.

There are more things I want to say about it, but I’ll just leave it like this:

I will definitely want to watch this movie again. This time, I will sit and enjoy it the entire time with no interruptions, and possible some tissues because I know I’ll cry again – I am tearing up now just thinking about it.

So, while looking at Sandra’s pictures, the wallpaper on this one stuck out. I think I have seen something similar to this one before:

A rug.

Now, I couldn’t find the rug I originally wanted to post about, but I was able to find some other ones that I kind of REALLY like. (And I mean REALLY like…. More of a I WANT kind of rugs…)

I may have shown this before, I don’t know, but I always admired it. It has some of the swirl, but mostly I think it is a complementary color scheme that would work well just about anywhere. Love it. It’s…. hard to explain but just know… I WANT IT. *laughs*

Now, this is one I hadn’t seen before! IT’S NEW!  What else is awesome? 100% wool! O.O New to me, machine made, but real wool. After my mind was blown about that I decided to chose it as well as one to show because you can definitely tell that this has a light Victorian feel to it. Just like that wall paper.  Or at least it did to me. (It also has a matching runner… again, mind blown!)

Anything else you would like to add as I go back and admire all her pictures? (Again, loved what she has done! Especially in apartments! Those are the hardest to do yet she pulls it off so well!)
