I can’t quite figure out what I wanted to blog about today, so I will talk about different subjects, and give you a peek at what is going on in my mind…

Warning, it is quite diverse and a few different subjects at one time.

I did it! I actually tried baking with the fresh strawberries, and let me say, it was delicious! Let’s just say the cake didn’t last long enough to take a picture. My family (aka: Me, my husband and my daughter) LOVED it and it was eaten pretty quickly.

My daughter’s 2nd birthday is coming up, so I may try something like this again for her cake (I am baking it for her this year to try to save money for the zoo!) so this is definitely an idea that will be shelved and saved for future reference.

It’s an older style more traditional rug but it fits in this room VERY well! I would have never thought of placing this rug in this room, but look how beautiful it looks? Isn’t it fantastic? So I tried to see if I can find a rug similar to this on eSaleRugs.com

Kids/Family:

And I am really excited! My baby is turning 2!! It’s amazing how fast time goes by! And we know what we’re doing for her birthday. She isn’t going to get many presents, but she is going to visit…..

*trumpets*

THE ZOO!

We have been wanting to take her to the zoo since the first time she watched We Bought A Zoo! She loved that movie and it was her favorite for the longest time. And now, she gets to see a zoo! We figured that she is old enough now to actually enjoy it and have fun, so it’s the great “First Trip” (besides the cross country drive… but all she saw then was the backseat while wrapped in a blanket. *laughs*)

This is where we are going!

Riverbanks zoo and garden in Columbia, SC! I am truly excited. I will probably be taking a lot of pictures. My facebook friends are going to get a lot of new photos in a new album pop up on their feed soon after this. *wink*

I have been trying to plan this, but I think, in the end, winging it will just be the best thing. See what she wants to do and where she wants to go. Should be a blast.

And….

That is a look at what goes on in my brain at one time. It is quite… amusing how it jumps so quickly to all of it and bounces back between them.

Celebrating “The Blues!”

This morning I was listening to the radio when they said something about how a new study is showing that blueberries are actually good to help with DIABETES. Now, I know in the past I have heard that they are one of the top fruits people recommend because of the antioxidants, but I decided to dedicate this entry to the positive facts of blueberries and to celebrate, show my OTHER favorite BLUE things.

This will be fun!

– Blueberries can improve memory!
– A recent study that included blueberries as a low-GI fruit has found that blueberries, along with other berries, clearly have a favorable impact on blood sugar regulation in persons already diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
–  There is 35% of Vitamin K, 25% of Manganese, 24% of Vitamin C, and 14% of Fiber
– Damage to muscles following a very taxing exercise can be reduced by eating Blueberries!
–  It can even help protect your brain from oxidative stress!

Basically, the more I look into it, the most positive things I find! There are a LOT more beneficial things about blueberries, but I don’t want the ENTIRE blog to be about all the good it can do! (but I should do that one day). I want to celebrate by seeing other blue things!

I have always loved the blue roses. Though I am not sure they are “all natural” there is a way to get them… I think.

There is always Cookie Monster! He was one of my favorite Sesame Street characters growing up!

And Grover! But you don’t hear much about him anymore. One of my favorite books when I was a kid was a Grover book called “The Monster at the End of This Book”. …. or something like that.

Juicing – The Healthy Treat

I hate vegetables. This is a fact. I feel terrible as a mom that I cannot stand the good habits I need to teach my daughter so she grows up healthy and strong!

But there is a way around this! Where I CANNOT taste most vegetables but it is SO healthy and everyone enjoys it! Including me! (My daughter is young enough where she will try anything and enjoys just about everything.)

And what is this way, you may ask? JUICING. Yes, the wonderful world of juice!

I could go into this long thing about why I started, the good stuff it has done, the weight I have lost (Yes, I have lost weight from this and let me tell you, with all the stuff I have tried, it is amazing how this natural thing works so much better than anything else), I decided I’ll just stick with writing some “recipes” we have done and love! That way you can try it and like it, THEN find out how awesome it really is!

It’s really easy. If you don’t have a juicer (I highly recommend one. I mean, what’s better than fresh Orange Juice or Apple juice that you make yourself so you know EXACTLY what is going into it?) just get something that basically liquifies the fruits and veggies.

Now, here are some easy Juice mixes I highly recommend. They’re healthy, and boy do they taste good!

My husband and I experiment together, so a lot of these may appear to have a lot of the same things. Mix things up and see what you like. Remember, do fruits AND veggies!

Our all time favorite is:

Kale
Cucumber (1)
Apple (2)
Broccoli (1 steam full or just do a bunch of the actual little things)
Carrots (4)

It gives enough to give us BOTH a full glass!

Now, the reason I didn’t list the amount of Kale is because it is at your discretion. A lot of people do not like the taste, but it is one of the HEALTHIEST things out there for you. Me and my husband, our juice tastes weird if we DON’T taste it.

That’s right, we LIKE Kale. Crazy huh?

Another juice to try:

Kale (Again, use a little, use a lot. Up to you. I recommend adding a little at first, to see how it affects it and adjust)
Apple (1)
Broccoli(1)
Celery (this has  a stronger taste than you’d think. Again, try one stalk, taste, then add more if you’d like)
Pineapple (1/4)
Cucumber (Cucumber adds a bit of juice)

Now, for  a fun juice I call a dessert juice!

Apples
Strawberries
Pineapple
Orange
Carrot

This juice helps curb your sweat tooth and tastes FANTASTIC.

Hope this all helps you like it has me. Just try it. Taste it. Fix it to your own liking. ANOTHER TIP: Apples are your friends. If you don’t like the taste of something, add apples. They tend to cover a lot of tastes that you may not enjoy and make it easier to drink.
