Happy Independence Day!

I know it’s a little late, but I was unable to get online yesterday. Overall, the day was fun and I definitely enjoyed it.

We didn’t go see a full display of Fireworks, but we did get to see a few that were near our home. We had our Now-2-years-old daughter when we went outside to see them. She hugged Daddy VERY tightly. But near the last few, she said “Ooooh” and smiled. But it took some time and reassurance. Next year is when we’ll do a full on thing and she may be old enough to remember. ;D But for now, it was a nice event.

What did you do for 4th of July?

And now, some Independence Day Trivia and fun facts!

* In May, 1776, after nearly a year of trying to resolve their differences with England, the colonies sent delegates to the Second Continental Congress. Finally, in June, admitting that their efforts were hopeless; a committee was formed to compose the formal Declaration of Independence. Headed by Thomas Jefferson, the committee also included John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Philip Livingston and Roger Sherman. On June 28, 1776, Thomas Jefferson presented the first draft of the declaration to Congress.

* Betsy Ross, according to legend, sewed the first American flag in May or June 1776, as commissioned by the Congressional Committee.

* Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.

* The Liberty Bell sounded from the tower of Independence Hall on July 8, 1776, summoning citizens to gather for the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence by Colonel John Nixon.

* Before cars ruled the roadway, the Fourth of July was traditionally the most miserable day of the year for horses, tormented by all the noise and by the boys and girls who threw firecrackers at them.

* Both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on Independence Day, July 4, 1826. (Okay, not so fun, but still…)

* The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence did not sign at the same time, nor did they sign on July 4, 1776. The official event occurred on August 2, 1776, when 50 men signed it.

* In 1941, Congress declared4th of July a federal legal holiday. It is one of the few federal holidays that have not been moved to the nearest Friday or Monday.

AND FINALLY!

Why July 4th?

* Because congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.

Positive Reinforcement

There are times that each of us have that… that hard day. Hard time. HARD YEAR. And all we need is just something positive, something good…

And this is where we can help each other. It feels like today everyone is out to put down or discourage or trying to get ahead. We forget to stop and think about the person we passed, the person we stepped on or ignored. What about them? We have all been in that position, one way or another.

It hurts. We are all human. We all experience the pain one way or another. And sometimes it’s just crushing.

And sometimes we don’t notice when we are the one causing the pain.

Slow down, take a breath, and remember your fellow person.

And for those who are the ones being crushed, let me tell you, it gets better.

I am trying to think of positive things to post so this post can be there to remind you of good things. If you have any suggestions, let me know, so I can add it.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
(We have a future and there is good things coming ahead…)

Creative Week!

Gasp! Where is the Deisgner of the Week?!? you may ask.

Well, I am currently doing some research and having to take another break. (Designers are busy people, so I don’t push for answers, I just ask questions. ;D)

So I thought about it, and decided, this is a good week to talk about being creative and letting it shine in your own way! And I came up with it because I am starting this new task that I decided I wanted to be done. Changes are being made people, and sometimes, we just need inspiration and to see that others go through the same creative struggles as we do.

Now I know when he have this new project/new idea/etc we  get all excited and just want to start right away. And a lot of times, that’s actually the right thing to do. (If you don’t start, you might never.) But there are somethings you need to stop and think about before hand.

Now, this can fit to many different things. (Weight loss can fit into this very easily. No Joke.) You need to realistically think about how you are going to approach it and how to make sure you can keep it going.

Now, while you think about that for a second, here is a peaceful picture that actually helps me at times (oddly enough).

Now, you may wonder why I did that. It’s because it caused you to think did it not? It may have not been about what I had talked about thinking about, but it did start a thinking process (or so I hope.)

And proves a point:

When thinking about a project, try not to have distractions and just fully think about it. When you want something to be done, you need to focus. (there is a difference between setting time aside to focus to only thinking about one thing. You need breaks too!)

These days, we can get distracted WAY too easily. Just go online to do something may turn out like this:

“Oh, I want to get that blog entry written! But I can’t think about what to write about. Well… since I need to think let me check my email. I am supposed to be getting a message from work.”
“Oh look! I have some friends with birthdays this week! In fact, she has one today! Let’s go wish her happy birthday on her facebook wall.”
“Oh wow, that’s a cute picture. Where did they get it from?
*leads to another site*
“Oh that is just too perfect! I must pin this!” (Pinterest anyone?)
“That is such a beautiful dress… what site is that from?”

And on and on. Eventually you forget what you originally wanted to do. OR it makes it even HARDER to write something because you have so much on your mind now.

And boy do I know how that goes.

POINT OF THIS ENTRY:

Projects take time, and though we are excited about them, think about how you will realistically ACHIEVE THEM. Make a plan and figure a time that you can set aside to work on it. It will get done. Sometimes it’s slow, but the feeling of accomplishment is grand.

Now go work on those projects!

Pure Random

I can’t quite figure out what I wanted to blog about today, so I will talk about different subjects, and give you a peek at what is going on in my mind…

Warning, it is quite diverse and a few different subjects at one time.

Food:

(Not my picture. XD)

I did it! I actually tried baking with the fresh strawberries, and let me say, it was delicious! Let’s just say the cake didn’t last long enough to take a picture. My family (aka: Me, my husband and my daughter) LOVED it and it was eaten pretty quickly.

My daughter’s 2nd birthday is coming up, so I may try something like this again for her cake (I am baking it for her this year to try to save money for the zoo!) so this is definitely an idea that will be shelved and saved for future reference.

Design:

Have you seen this picture going around?

You know what I’m going to point out, right? ….

I hope you answered THE RUG! *laughs* LOOK!

It’s an older style more traditional rug but it fits in this room VERY well! I would have never thought of placing this rug in this room, but look how beautiful it looks? Isn’t it fantastic? So I tried to see if I can find a rug similar to this on eSaleRugs.com

I think I found some close ones… what do you think?

Then I found a colorful version. ;P

esalerugs.com/22129645

Now, the colorful one isn’t exactly the same, but I thought it was interesting!

Kids/Family:

And I am really excited! My baby is turning 2!! It’s amazing how fast time goes by! And we know what we’re doing for her birthday. She isn’t going to get many presents, but she is going to visit…..

*trumpets*

THE ZOO!

We have been wanting to take her to the zoo since the first time she watched We Bought A Zoo! She loved that movie and it was her favorite for the longest time. And now, she gets to see a zoo! We figured that she is old enough now to actually enjoy it and have fun, so it’s the great “First Trip” (besides the cross country drive… but all she saw then was the backseat while wrapped in a blanket. *laughs*)

This is where we are going!

Riverbanks zoo and garden in Columbia, SC! I am truly excited. I will probably be taking a lot of pictures. My facebook friends are going to get a lot of new photos in a new album pop up on their feed soon after this. *wink*

I have been trying to plan this, but I think, in the end, winging it will just be the best thing. See what she wants to do and where she wants to go. Should be a blast.

And….

That is a look at what goes on in my brain at one time. It is quite… amusing how it jumps so quickly to all of it and bounces back between them.

What is going on in your mind today?

Going to attempt…

Alright, I have always wanted to experiment with this, but I am always to scared I’ll mess it up, but people do it ALL THE TIME.

What if it ruins it?

What am I talking about?

Putting fruit in a cake mix and baking it. *laughs*

But this will be attempted tonight. I will cheat a little and use this mix:

Yes. Going to try. And the strawberries:

Except there are a LOT less. Must admit, me and my husband have been snacking and eating. But hey, there are still some to try!

I also have this:

Such a wonderful Combination.

And trust me, I’ll let you know how it turns out. ;P

Any recipes you tried? Did it work or did it fail? And for all those who cook with fruit IN the cake, any advise?

Mars Needs Moms

Now, I believe this movie went under the radar and needs more attention! I hadn’t heard much about this movie, but I do remember some mention of it when it was in theaters/going to be in theaters/commercial trails for it, but not taking it in.

It wasn’t until last night when my husband was trying to think of movies to watch that he was surfing the internet for anything we hadn’t seen before (and for him, it’s a hard thing to find. It feels like he’s seen EVERYTHING). He stumbled across this picture and said “Oh yeah, I wanted to give this movie a try.”

First, I have to point out, my husband is SO WONDERFUL! How many men do you know who will admit to wanting to watch this and then CHOSE it? Secondly, I had to ask, “What movie are you talking about?” As I headed over to him to see what he was looking at. Again, I remembered seeing some trailers for it, but didn’t pay attention.

“Eh, couldn’t hurt. I mean, haven’t heard anything bad about it.” (Didn’t hear anything about it period.)

And so, we went and got the movie.

Let’s just say: I cried.

I couldn’t help it. Being a mom myself, it’s just hard to see and think how your child might feel if you were kidnapped. Now note, you’re probably not going to get kidnapped by aliens, but still, roll with me here.

There were some odd things here and there, but overall, I think it was enjoyable. Now, I’m not sure how well young kids who understand will take it, but you moms out-there, I say definitely watch it. Maybe you’ll kids like it too.

There are more things I want to say about it, but I’ll just leave it like this:

I will definitely want to watch this movie again. This time, I will sit and enjoy it the entire time with no interruptions, and possible some tissues because I know I’ll cry again – I am tearing up now just thinking about it.

Something Different This Way Comes…

As you may have noticed, it has been a while since I have posted! And I promise I will tell you why:

I have a few things brewing! I am working on having more to write about, especially in the Decor Section of my blog. Fantastic isn’t it? Let’s see what is coming ahead:

* First, I am going to try to organize the blog a bit better. I think I have the basics, but if I can make it easier, it’d be better.

* I am very excited to announce my “Designer of the Week” posts that will be started! I have been talking to many different Designers and they have been kind enough to let me interview them and hear about their designs and their experience. Very exciting! You’re going to love it.

* I will be POSTING AGAIN! I will try to have it where I should be posting three times a week. I know and you know my posts very greatly about their content sometimes, but I will do the “Designer of the Week” as well as a Recipe and the third post will be a toss up!

Now, I want to hear from you, what days do you think would be the best? When do you like to read the posts?

Thank you for your patience everyone, and I will talk to you soon! ❤
